Opengate Founder - Main Inventor for Heat Containment and In-Row Cooling Systems

Mark Germagian, President & Founder of Opengate Data Systems, has been active in technology research and new product development for the past 26 years - developing innovative power and cooling solutions for  telecom and information technology environments. First developing switch mode rectifier systems and frequency changers for Warren, Fiskars Electronics and Ascom and then as  APC’s first thermal design engineer in 1992, contributed significantly to APC’s data center cooling portfolio including the first concepts for In-Row cooling solutions. Mark later discovered advanced technology to effectively cool data centers and worked with the Chief Engineer and Energy Director at Oracle to understand the energy efficiency benefits with the predecessor of the Opengate EC Automated Cooling System. Mark founded Opengate Data Systems to bring the unique benefits of Unity Cooling to the broader data center market. Mark is a member and contributing author for ASHRAE TC9.9, holds multiple U.S. and international patents for power and cooling systems and has authored numerous white papers in the area of effective and efficient data center operation.

A November 2009 Data Center Knowledge article highlights and references a newly issued US patent and inventors for a heat containment system. Wright Line, a Massachusetts based manufacturer of metal racks and furniture, was awarded this US patent in October for evacuating heat from an IT rack enclosure using a portion of the top and a portion of the rear of the rack enclosure.  The main inventor of the Wright Line patent is Mark Germagian, president and founder of Opengate Data Systems.
